We are trying to change the UCS coordinate in assembly. But we cant change it.
Please let us know the solution.
I have been working on working 3D representation of an Igus cable chain, however when I place a joint with limits (to specify the range of movement, concurrent with the physical product) It will only work for a short period of time before the limits disappear. In the parts window to the left of the screen (default) I can view the applied joint on each part, where the limits are still in the text box, yet they aren't being applied to the model.
I then attempted to re-apply all the limits to the model, no change.
I restarted my software (Inventor Pro 2014) and tried again to no avail.
Machine is a Dell Precision T3600, Intel Xeon CPU - E5-1620-0 @ 3.60GHz, 32gb RAM, running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
This appears to be a major flaw within the joint tool. I'd expect software bugs with new features but I'd say that this feature has not been thoroughly tested nor perfected. To have angular limits invisibly 'removed' with no prompt, error or conflict is something that needs to be addressed.
I don't have time to get screenshots together but the model is a direct download from Igus, of their E2 mini Chain, 10 series,
part number 10.050.028.
If anyone can offer help or suggestions I would be very grateful.
Please find attached snap. we are trying to change to angular occurrences but we cant change it.
Does anyone know how this kind of process could be done.
Is it possible to autogenrate a kind of file numbering system? When you make drawings from an assembley, I don't see how the drawings refer to each other? I am looking for a solution, where a drawing number appears in the title block, and is connected with the assembley. Or at least refer to the name of the part.

Hello. I design large fuel/oil/water etc, holding tanks. I ran across this thread looking for a solution for the same exact issue.
You know, I have been trying to figure this out for a few months now, and was unsuccessful. I was looking around on here for a possible solution, turns out, there isn't one. The company I currently work for uses Inventor 2014. So sitting at home tonight, after finding this thread, I decided to try it on my 2010 Solidworks BASIC, and low and behold, it worked. It was simple. I extruded a disc, converted it to sheet metal, then created the flange, using the edge flange tool, to the desired hight with one click.... clicked; create flat pattern, voilà. THREE STEPS, not 42. What's the deal with Inventor or Autodesk in general? Why does everything I want to do, have to be so involved. I went to school for mechanical design and our main software curriculum was Inventor, with only one semester of Solidworks. Why anyone prefers Inventor to SW is beyond me! Not impressed at all. This is just one example of many, many more. Don't even get me started on BOM'S.
I need to make a spring coil which then has to revolve back on itself to make a circular spring by following a path I am guessing??????
What are the steps to using Frame Generator and iassemblies together so I can use multiple configurations of the same frame in one assembly?
wondering if anyone has ran into this issue before as well?
start a new part file and create a box or some sort of basic extrusion, create a sketch on the face and put a piece of text on that sketch.
change to font to "ScriptS" and the text size to 4mm (although i dont think it matters)
type in the text box lower case q, finish the sketch and try to emboss.
Inventor fails due to self intersecting loop
as a work around we changed the font to something similar, however i just though it was strange
I'm trynig to design a launder and get all the plate into flat patterns for fabrication.
Problem is, I can't figure out how to get the sheetmetal module to flatten these parts.
I tried making them about 5 different ways, but no success.
Anybody have any idea how to make this work?
See attached files.
Much obliged ... Chris
I'm trying to write some iLogic to enable me to do an interference check in an IAM file without finding an interference of every bolt in every hole. So the idea is to loop through components and change this setting to MAJOR, check for interference, then loop back through with a second rule changing the settings back to TAP DRILL for CAM programming purposes. (This is why I can't just change the default in our templates.)
Anyway, I've got some code and it "usually" works well. But sometimes I get this error:
Error in rule: Tapped_Hole_Major, in document: <DOC NAME>.iam
Member not found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80020003 (DISP_E_MEMBERNOTFOUND))
When I get that error, I've found that I can normally close Inventor. Re-open it, run the rule, and everything is fine. What gives? Suggestions?
Here's the code:

My Inventor 3DA add-on does not seem to be initializing? I checked under the start menu, in tools and I set it to automatically load but still "greyed out" in Inventor? I am using IV 2013 Product Design Suite, Ultimate.

I am currently assembling a woodwork vice, and looking to insert the bar handle with limits on the offsets. However the insert constraint does not recognise the hole in the threaded bar that drives the vice.
I have attached the assembly below as it is a bit difficult for me to explain - I have tried an axis to acis constraint which works well up until the point at which I introduce the offset limits. The offset works but along the incorrect axis - I wish for the offset and limits to be along the axis on which they are constrained.
I hope that this makes some sense to you - any help would be greatly appreciated. I have searched the forums to make sure that there is not a thread to this effect elsewhere.
My company recently got a new client and they have some very odd "standards" for their drawing requirements and such. In order to make it easier on our records and still relatively easy to meet their standards we would like to create multiple styles for the drawings so that we can keep our standard and simply default a second standard to a template just for them.
Sadly we haven't had to do this before so none of are really sure as to how we should go about doing it and we don't want to mess up any of the settings for our current standards as we have some people working off those still.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Only found 1 message about this, was 5 years old, and a dead end after 2 posts.
Can you have multiple languages in a drawing? Text and dimensions? (having the "alternate unit" to be a different language would be ideal)
I have a 2D skecth that I need to project onto a curved surface using code. Can someone please give me a starting point. I've searched here and the programming help, but I cannot find anything but embossing and decals.
Also can someone clue me in as how to search ONLY this forum. I keep setting the search to Board, but it doesn't matter. I'll get results from every Autodesk forum. This is extremely frustrating and time consuming trying to wade through AutoCAD, 3DS max, and general Inventor posts.
I'm using Inventor 2013 and iLogic.
I am running a simulation where the material is modified in material editor (specifically the yield strength and tensile strength) and when I create the report, it shows the defalt physical properties. What am I missing that is causing this issue?
I'm doing an open brainstorm right now of how to do this and am simply looking for a more efficient way (if there is one) to find a common suffix of a file. What I'm doing is renaming a set of files (parent project, children files, and chilren's children files), opening the new file, and resolving the links between the parts. Well, that's the basic way to explain it anyways. I'm very excited that I started learning VBA two weeks ago and am already almost done!
What I need to do to resolve the links is use the following:
Component.Replace("Old Part","New Part",False)
However, the way my files are set up are as follows:
Children of Children:
I then rename my parent file to, say, "Yay32.ipj". All prefixes "MyCodeWorks" then change to prefix "Yay32". To fit the format for the replace component procedure, I need to grab the suffixes "001","002","003",etc.
I have two ideas so far and would love more input. I'm new to VBA and really don't know the most efficient way to do things yet. I'm posting my ideas below! Does anyone have a better or more efficient idea? This is more theoretical; I wouldn't need the actual code, just an idea!
1) When the user inputs "Old Name" and "New Name" into the initial renaming process, I could have it calculate the number of characters in each string and then skip that many characters in each to find the common suffix.
2) Search for the full prefix ("001")...this could cause problems because sometimes a file might read, say, SD5 001 - 001 . But maybe there's a way to search for that prefix after the hyphen, adding i=1 each time in a loop?
Thanks for any ideas ahead of time!!!
I've been working at automating much of many of our manual process.... one being a Sq Ft calculation of the flat pattern.
I have already created an iLogic rule that creates a Custom Iprop call SQ_FT;
iProperties.Value("Custom", "SQ_FT") = Round(SheetMetal.FlatExtentsArea/144,2)& " FT SQ"
I want to take it another step forward and use this in our iParts.
Using an exsiting iPart, add the custom property into table, which popluates that entire column with the same value.
To have this value update, close the table, activate each member one at a time and click "Yes" to the popup message;
The values in the Active Row of the table do not match the document's current values.
Do you wish to update the table before continuing?
SQ_FT: "0.05 FT SQ"!= "1.12FT SQ"
With an iPart that has less than 10 members this isn't to bad, but when there is 200+ its to much.
So, after scouring the forum and internet, I found some iLogic that will rebuild each member but does not update the table with the new custom property.
Here is the code;
Dim app As Inventor.Application = ThisApplication
Dim oDoc As Inventor.Document = app.ActiveDocument
Dim oCompDef As ComponentDefinition = oDoc.ComponentDefinition
Dim currow As Integer
Dim oFactory As iPartFactory
Dim oRow As iPartTableRow
Dim strSQ_FT As String
oFactory = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ComponentDefinition.iPartFactory
currow = oFactory.DefaultRow.Index
oFactory.DefaultRow = oFactory.TableRows.Item(1)
' Iterate through the rows
For Each oRow In oFactory.TableRows
oFactory.DefaultRow = oRow
' Set the row value for the SQ_FT column.
strSQ_FT = iProperties.Value("Custom", "SQ_FT")
'oRow.Item(iSQ_FTColumnIndex).Value = strSQ_FT
oFactory.DefaultRow = oFactory.TableRows.Item(currow)
When I uncomment the line 'oRow.Item(iSQ_FTColumnIndex).Value = strSQ_FT, I get this error message;
System.ArgumentException: The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG))

I'm at a loss as to why I'm getting this message, let alone what I need to do to correct it.
Plus, I want to be able to generate the files as well.
I just started on the TOOLING tutorials for INVENTOR 2014. I have the MOBIL TOP.IPT opened and placed. After adjusting the orientation, I selected MATERIAL. I get a message that says "The mold analysis server is terminated and to save the current document and reopen to restart the Moldflow analysis server". I have tried three times to get the analysis server to reopen, but nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this? Thanks! By the way my O/S is Windows 7 Ultimate and I have a GTX570 graphics card if this information is relevant.
