AMD FirePro W7000
I wonder where I can find recommended settings for this card? We do AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, Revit... all pretty much fully 3d.
Video Card help!!!
Hi, I am buying a new notebook and I need help choosing the video card. The options are: Dell precision m4700 with a FirePro M4000 or a Quadro K2000M, or an Alienware with a gaming video card like a GT or a HD 7970M.
The FirePro M400 has better benchmark than the Quadro K2000M and the HD 7970 has better benchmark than all.
I know the Quadro and FirePro are more professional cards but to what extend is better than a good gaming card?
The main softwares that i use are Zbrush, Maya and Mari.
Thanks.
Is this wise decision or are my options limited?
To cut the chatter.
i wish to build a enthusiast pc while saving costs on premium consumer pc parts and just build a basic 4 core system, with the addition to either add or build another slave rack with 2 intel phi coprocessrs. rumour has it they sold rather cheap in the corporate world and will hit either this month or later on.
With intel phi co-processor while undoubtably oblivious to what they may actually cost in cosnumer market, they however add value when comparing to what other things intel offer since these cards are simply pci-50-60core dedicated slave server cards that im delighted to have.
I realise alone simply buying a xeons too expensive and un-cost productive for what i need it for while also knowing that i need a cpu with more cores but with the added precision; that's were the price point explodes.
After numorous waits for a cpu simply for scientific calculations me alone cannot keep up with the amount influx and demand intel throws at their corporate crowd.
Should i just forget building a enthusiast edition (6 core system or build a amd 8 core rig, or just wait for their fx9000 series cpu that i dredd very much until steam roller arrives or build a 4 core system) pc, since competitions slow and i cannot simply wait for a system with a reasonable architecture with high cores to arrive.

Graphic card for Autocad 2013
I am using Autocad 2013 with a gtx 460 that is not certified I want to buy another graphic card, should I buy a Quadro 600 or a k600? which is the diference between both and which is better? Is the k600 certified? because I could not see in the Autodesk certified hardware page. An other question is that if it will be work well with Inventor too.
Mouse accuracy
Whenever i zoom in a lot my mouse (an an A4 tech X6-80D) loses it's precision and moves in large intervals. Someone told me this could be fixed by playing with settings but i didn't find anything about that. Has anyone else encountered this?
DIY $900 computer for CAD
These are the latest prices from Newegg. 256 SSD! The i5-3570K can be overclocked if you are into that. Four cores is more than adequate for CAD work, plus room for O/S and future needs. Fast enough for all but the most demanding tasks. AMD V4900 is an excellent card, supports three monitors, 1GB RAM (that is all that would be used in most cases). More memory is better, but this meets the price point.
This will be a fast, smooth machine for almost any need.
Microcenter is offering the i5-3570K for $169.99. In store only. Buy from them and get more RAM. Still under $900.

Workstation video card benchmarking results of interest.
Here is a link to a surprise result from a benchmark run on workstation cards. AMD V4900 outperformed high end AMDs and Quadros in a benchmark test sponsored by Xi Computers. Xi was building CAD workstations when I learned AutoCad 11. Excellent prices on very fast machines.
Issues with installing new Quadro 4000
Hey guys,
After continues issues with Geforce GTX 660 TI graphic card while working with Revit and AutoCad I decided to replace the graphic card with a Quadro 4000 today.
Once I removed the old card (uninstalled old drivers) and installed the new card turned on the PC however the PC did not pass the initial bios post (motherboard logo) and certainly did not get into Windows boot up option. Once turning on the PC the motherboard logo (Gigabyte GA-X79-UD3) is shown however it gets stuck and after few minutes the screen goes blank. Whilst the Gigabyte logo is shown I tried to enter the Bios setup to check the settings however cannot enter the setup as the keyboard is completely inactive. I also tried using DVI cable and Display port cable (the only connections available on the Graphic card) to see if it makes any differences but neither made any difference.
Just to cover every aspect I connected this card to various PCI slots that are available on GA-X79-UD3 but still the issue persists. I also disconnected the power cable to some of the peripherals just in case if there is not enough power available but that did not make any difference as well. Technically the power requirement for Quadro 4000 should be less than GTX 660TI.
Any ideas on how to fix this? There has to be some sort of conflict that does not let the PC to boot but there is no beeping sound from the PC to support this.
Plotter Configuration "Custom Properties" Dialog box does not display
With Windows XP 32bit, when selecting "Custom Properies" under the plotter configuration editor, the screen flashes and nothing happens. This happens with any AutoCAD version. I also made sure the dialog box didn't fall off the screen. I also ruled out any network issues. This only happens with XP 32bit. The idea of upgrading the OS is out of the question due to our current finnacial position.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
THANKS!
Graphic card K4000
Hi All,
Does anyone know if the card nvidia quadro K4000 supports rendering in autocad architecture 2010?
I found a lot of drivers for other autodesk softwear but nothing for architecture.
How best to set the card to use it in AutoCAD? Anyone could help?
I put below a log from settings.

System specs, graphics minefield doing my tree in
Currently looking at specs for machine for 3d modeling (plant design suite). High end models, projects ranging from 10k up to 2-3 billion. So we know it falls into the high end specs. That said to say theres conflicting info around is a bit of an understatement. Trying to select the right components is a minefled to say the least.
The background infrastructure is network based, with usual machine overheads running on a large network, so say roughly 20-30% performance loss.
Lifespan for the hardware is 2 -3 years max.
We have a team using high end machines, twin xeon chips, 16gb ram + quadro 4000, twin raid HD's etc in a client based office so we know there are significant savings in time by upgrading (20-30% has been put as a rough figure), they have also had localised storgae servers put in to help.
So, taking into account above im pretty confident on the choice of twin chips, either 16 or 32gb ram, primary SSD etc. The issue i have is graphics.
The current list of available is,
Quadro 4000
Qaudro 4000k
Firepro V7900
Firepro W7000
Starting at £600 going up to £650 so sod all cost in it in the grand scheme with the exception being the q4000k at £900, and trying to get an answer is proving to be difficult. Benchmarks vary depending on what package there tested on and in some cases they get out performed by normal gaming cards (gtx680 etc). So benchmarks are pretty useless.
Has any one tried them to see how they perform against each other in the real world modeling evnironment?

I dont game much on pc except maybe sim city starcraft and gta games but mostly developement.
Any advise would be good towards what systems for me and can help others answer same questions as above.
I use alot of applications far more then before.
im adding the costs but unsure of the final value. my barebone costs 1700 mandatory parts anything above others recommend maybreak budget since im focusing on the fundemental parts. gpu, hard drive not ssd but things like that im adding last.
Preferred O/S for Product Design Suite Ultimate 2014?
I currently have Product Design Suite Ultimate 2013 installed on a Vista 64 bit Ultimate machine, an operating system which Autodesk no longer supports. Besides lack of O/S support, the machine itself is 8+ year old and has begun to show it's age.
That being the case, I'm now in need of both a new machine, and an operating system. For the machine itself, I'm looking at towered workstations with an AT form factor motherboard. I have no need for a touch-screen monitor or tablet form factors. It is my intention to run/operate each and every application and each and every module that comes shipped with PDSU 2014. I may also choose to run Adobe Encore and Adobe Premier Pro on this same computer.
Should I be using Windows 7 or Windows 8 for the operating system?
Any particular benefit using a Xeon processor over the fastest Intel Core i7 Extreme processor?
It's my understanding that Xeons are the preferred choice for computational accuracy.
Any tips, suggestions or comments on this particular subject would be most welcomed!
Product Intalltion
In installing autoCAD 12, 13 or 14.... when using a portable HD or a HD outside from the main PC. Can I install the entire autoCAD program on these external HDs .....? Taking in considertion when taking this HD to another PC of the same configuration or better, but this PC does not have autoCAD installed, will I be able to work with autoCAD just as simple?
In other words I wold like to have a portable CAD program to work on pratically any PC or iMac of hi-configuration, instead of carrying aroud a XPS or Presion laptop. If not, why? And this should be a consideration for future versions from Autodesk.
I think ive researched to many cpus now confused
With all autodesk products is it true more cores a better.
Does autodesk products perform well with rendering geometry or cpu intensive calculations when compared to physics engine.
i use a physics engine that im trying to comprehend in a 2d/3d environment lag sets in, and when i use real time ray tracing as hardware test i get bad results.
just testing the best cpu for the job.
So my question is: what cpu would you advise, since overclocking with autodesks pointless.
List of cpus:
super fx 8350+ june announceent $800 cpu
Amd black edition 8 cor cpu 8350
---
june 2013 edition cpus
4930k 6core
4770k 4 core
4770r 5400hd 4 core
old editions
intel 3930k 6 core
intel 3770k 4 core
So does autodesk products benifit from pci e 3.0 or not.
im waiting for june but hopefully with the new xeon announcements soon other xeons may become cheaper that i doubt.
Fujitsu AH 530 or MSI GX720
I currently have a fujitsu AH530 and I might be getting the MSI GX720. The specs for the fujitsu are:
Processor:
Processor: Intel Core i3 i3-350M / 2.26 GHz
Multi-Core Technology: Dual-Core
64-bit Computing: Yes
Chipset Type: Mobile Intel HM55 Express
Cache Memory
Type: L3 cache
Installed Size: 3.0 MB
RAM
Installed Size: 4.0 GB
Technology: DDR3 SDRAM – 1066.0 MHz
Configuration Features: 2 x 2 GB
Storage
Floppy Drive: None
Hard Drive: 500.0 GB – Serial ATA-150 – 5400.0 rpm
Storage Removable: None
Hard drive type: Portable
And the specs for the MSI GX720 are:
• The latest Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology
• Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
• 17" TFT-LCD Widescreen Display
• Exclusive Turbo Drive Engine Technology
• Exclusive ECO Engine Power Management System
• The Combination of Aluminum and Metallic Threads in Body Design
• The nVIDIA Geforce 9600M GT 3D Graphic Card with DDR3 512 MB VRAM
• Theater Class 5 Speakers
• HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) Output
• Built-in 2.0 Mega Pixel Webcam
• 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN with Bluetooth
So im confused whether to keep my fujitsu or to switch to this MSI laptop, according to these specs which one is better? I'm 17 so I use the laptop for gaming purposes at most.
Thanks x
A square frozen on-screen area in 3dmax2008 win8-64?
I didn't have that bug in win7 . On my new pc with win8 I constantly get a kind of frozen square area/patch on the screen.
It's indistinguishable and looks like everything just stopped responding till you shift or rotate the scene. After that it appears like a piece of max viewport screenshot above anything else. It stays on screen even if you minimize Max , until you completely close the program.
Do anybody know how to fix it or what may cause that bug?
Can someone recommend a spec for running 10 mgb + drawings and multitasking??
Hi, could someone please suggest a specification for a new pc that will allow me to easily work on drawings that can be 10 megabytes plus which will also allow me to do other things at the same time with no issue? Operating system, RAM, Processor, Graphics card? This will be for running Autocad LT 2014. Would be much appreciated! Thanks.
