Drawing a Harness

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Wed, 2013-04-24 21:26

I am currently using AutoCAD 2009 Mechanical to draw an Electrical Harness, which I have done a few times before. This particular Harness Already Exists but kind of looks like a rat's nest, which is one of the reasons I am  drawing it out, to "Comb out" all the tangles.  The harness has about 500 wires and 10 connectors. I have drawn all of the Connectors and laid them  out the way I think it would work best, but I want to create as few overlaps (Tangles) as possible. Is there a way to automatically re-layout the wires, so that if I move a connector, the wires (Lines/Polylines) will follow?  Example, There would be less overlaps if I moved this connector from  the bottom  right to the upper right, and rotated it 180 degrees. I want the wires to stay connected to where they are, instead of dragging them  to their new locations one at a time, and for them  to change their lengths accordingly. Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. I provided some examples of before and after (Uncompleted obviously).

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Guys,

I am a student and I have an Education Account already with AutoCAD.

I have been though AutoCad 2009 version and I I am not able to find that version to download from my Education Autocad Panel.

I downloaded and Installed AutoCAD 2013, but its more advanced and I am finding dificulty in learning as I am being though now at AutoCad 2009. Therefore, I request please give me a link to download - AutoCAD 2009 64 bit.

It would be of great help.

Thanks.

Blending/Filleting Curves of 3D objects in AutoCAD 2008

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Sun, 2013-04-21 00:33

Hey Everyone,

Fairly straight-forward question; I am trying to create a smooth transition from two semi-circle cross sections that are perpendicular (somewhat acute) to each other.  The bottom half-circle has a triangular tape at the top; the other half-circle does not. The layout is is similar to the inner corner of a tree branch connecting to a tree trunk.  Using the LOFT command, I can do this by connecting the two items and using my desired radius as a guide (See left figure of attachment).  HOWEVER, my intent is to blend the two objects together all the way to the bottom corners.  There is a gap left.  When using the FILLET command, it adds a somewhat accurate blob of material, but won't fillet the edges of the taper.

My questions are these:

1) How do you make a complete, smooth transition from one half-circle to the next that goes all the way down to the corners?  My initial solution is using trig and geometry to determine the size and shape of a cross section at the exact midpoint of the arc.  This has been overly cumbersome and may still require higher-level math.  Is there any method or command that does this (some form of MESH command?)?

2) Is there a command that can be used to stretch cross sections along the guidelines of 3d object?  Something like the ALIGN command?

3)  How do you remove the faces/edges of united objects to make a seamless union (without changing the visual styles manager settings)?

Any help is appreciated.  I know this can be done as I have seen similar shapes on YouTube.

Thanks,

-E

Text Style Font Changed Globally, Need to Change Back Globally

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Tue, 2013-04-16 01:40

In my title block drawing I use regularly a text style associated with a certain font changed on me globally but I can't seem to change it back globally.

I have a template title block dwg file that I save into all my project file folder locations.  From there I manipulate the tblock dwg to make it project specific (project name, date, etc.) and then xref that drawing into my design drawings.  In this tblock drawing there is a text style associated with text in my logo.  I noticed that throughout all the title block drawings in all my different project folders this style changed to a different font.  So I tried opening one of my title block drawings and using the 'style' command changing the text style back to the correct font but it is only changing it in that specific drawing...not through-out AutoCAD globally?

Any suggestions?

2008 LT

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Mon, 2013-04-15 18:50

I am running 2008 LT at work and when I came in this morning it will not open the shortcut menus when I right click..It is also very erratic when selecting and moving or copying. I am stumped I have tried restarting CAD, checked the CUI and everything looks fine. All of the keyboard commands work fine and the shortcut menu is not something I absolutely need but the erratic moving of the coursor is getting old very quick..And yes, I have put new batteries in the mouse and cleaned the lens..

Jumpiness within Workspace after a RAM upgrade

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Fri, 2013-04-12 04:40

Hello everyone,

I am currently working with a client on their Dell Precision 670s. I upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 4GB today as part of a test. I'll be finishing an upgrade to 12GB once I figure out this little issue and install a memory fan.

After the upgrade to 4GB, the workspace of AutoCAD 2009 worked fine at first. After a few minutes though, the cursor would become jumpy and the zooming with the mouse wheel was also delayed. It was only within the workspace of AutoCAD that this was an issue. When the mouse was on top of the menu bars, or any sidebars it was fine. I checked a few other programs and no jumpiness.

I then downgraded back to 2GB of RAM and the problem did not occur.

The system was recognizing all the RAM. within the resource monitor, I had 2GB of Free RAM and another 875 MB on standby. I'm perplexed and tapped out of ideas.

Has anyone seen this before within AutoCAD either regularly or post-RAM upgrade? Any thoughts as to solutions?

Thanks!

Can U Batch Publish To Multiple PDFs in 2009 LT ?

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Fri, 2013-04-12 01:46

Hello All,

USING AUTOCAD 2009 LT it seems as though the publish tool (for batch plotting) creates one pdf with several pages inside it. Is there a way to publish multiple individual pdfs of the individual sheets?

Thanks,

Paul

Hole Chart Dim Control

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Fri, 2013-04-12 01:39

Hello All,

I have a general question.

I have a PDF file I'm re-drawing into CAD form and I show a HOLE with the following dims

1.98 H7.  The H7 is upward of the dim, not right next to it.  I think it reads a + something and - 0.000

I read that the H7 is a tolerance of 0.0025mm.  I've attached the drawing to get my meaning.  I had the part made using this dim and the part (2mm Dowel Pin) slides easily in the hole.  I measured th Pins and they are all 2mm.

Thanks in Advance.

Linteype help please??

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Wed, 2013-04-10 19:56

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone would be so kind as to help me out with a linetype issue I have?

I am drawing up a house and I wondered if anyone has (or knows where I can download) two linetypes that I can use to represent brick coursing?

I think that what I need is very simple (unless I'm missing something) but all of my searches so far have been unsuccessful and I have tried to follow instructions for creating a linetype but that hasn't worked either!

All I need is one linetype that shows vertical lines that are 75 drawing units high and are equally spaced at 102 drawing unit intervals to represent one course of bricks and another linetype that shows vertical lines that are 75 drawing units high and are equally spaced at 215 drawing unit intervals to represent a different course of bricks.

Basically  :    | 102 space | 102 space | 102 space | 102 space | 102 space |   etc

Is this possible to achieve?  (I'm hoping that I'll be able to start the line in the midpoint of a course and extend/trim the line to suit the length required - similar to how the batting linetype works to represent insulation in a wall/roof).

If anyone can help out a confused & frustrated AutoCAD user I'd be eternally grateful.  Thanks for your time!

(I guess that this would also work as a dynamic block too if anyone has those already drawn up and is feeling generous?) :smileyhappy:

Dan.

Group command macros

AutoCAD General: AutoCAD 2009 - Wed, 2013-04-10 16:21

hi,

I would like to create 2 buttons in autocad 2007 - quick group and quick ungroup to avoid using the group dialogue box or command line option (like you had in autocad LT which was simple). in particular for the ungroup as this is very long winded.

does anybody know if this is possible and if so what text do you enter in the macro line?

thanks in advance.
