Issue using custom frame profiles in different projects
Hi all, thanks for looking at this issue.
I have been working on this previous project "A" and I realized a few custom frame profile such as Bosch Strut and Din rails. Now I am done with project "A" and I am moving onto a new project we are going to call project "B".
In this new project "B" I setup all my libraries as I would normally do, but once I start creating frames, I do not see any of the custom frame profile from my past project "A" even though I added my libraries, which are identical from project "A" to "B".
What am I missing?
Publish to manufacturing methods
Hi,
I am really curious to the best way possible to present drawings in a poroduct to the end-user/manufacturer.
I was hoping as many as possible of you could tell of your method/routine in your field.
Our method as of now, I think it's too hard to get an overview of the structure of the product with all its levels.
We do it like this: all part and assembly .idw's are printed and signed. then scanned and put into one pdf we call technical file. in the pdf, we use bookmarks for sorting into four main categories: purchased, manufacturing, assembly, and fitting kits. in addition we have other things, lik einstalation manual. the minus of this is that, when you are viewing one part, you cannot tell what assembly it is to be included in. in production area, they have small stations with ability to read these pdf's.
Please tell of your method of publishing to production.

How to put a curve in a piece of rectangular sheet metal?
I have a rectangular piece of sheet metal and all I want to do is make the sheet curved with a radius of 113.75 in.
How do I go about this?
Is there an easier way like making a 3d sketch and putting a sheet metal face on it?
I'm a beginner and any help is greatly appreciated!
Add In button does not work and no design tab
I am new to Inventor (using 2013) and going through the tutorials. I have came across a couple that require you to use the design tab but I do not have a design tab. I then try and use the add ins button to intall it but when i click on it, nothing happens. Can anyone help with both of these issues?
Bolts in Bolted connection "missing"
Myself and my coworkers have noticed that some times bolted connections will be missing a bolt. The bolt in question will appear again if you edit the bolted connection and hit ok and let it rebuild. But then another bolt in a different bolted connection will disappear. I just went back and forth between updating two sets of bolted connections and each time I updated one a bolt in the other disappeared. It's almost like there is a limit to how many bolts the assembly will show at once. The assemblies in question don't always have large numbers of bolts and other hardware though.
Has anyone else noticed this before?
I'm running Inventor 2013 SP2 running Nvidia Driver Release 276.42 [8.17.12.7642], which is the last recommended driver. I've also run newer/older drives with no difference.
Network Error -4.132.0 Can't Open Stress Analysis Feature
I am using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012 at work and sometimes I get this error when we are out of available licenses but my issue is with the analysis features the rest of the time.
I am trying to do a stress analysis and I get this error 100% of the time when trying to perform either a stress or frame analysis even though the license manager is working for the Inventor program to be opened.
Has anyone else had this issue or know how to fix it?
Upon research I found that this was an issue in 2008 and there was a HOTFIX for it but I haven't been able to find anything similar in the 2012 version.
FEA Contacts on Threaded Connections
Good afternoon everyone,
I understand the process of splitting faces and applying a Bonded Contact between the split faces when you have a bolted connection with a nut, but what kind of contacts would you use for say a threaded connection?
For example, suppose you have a plate that will be bolted to a mold. The plate has clearnace holes for said bolts and so that the bolts are threaded into the mold to be lifted. The plate has a threaded hole for the lifting mechanism (Swivel Hoist Ring). Finally, the desired load is applied to the Swivel Hoist Ring and the bolts are placed in pre-tension. I would like to simulate this via FEA but am getting tripped up in the contacts. Also I am trying to make it as simple and efficient as possible (by eliminating any bolts or other parts that are not needed). I use INV Pro 2014. Can someone please provide an ideal way to simulate this as accurate as possible and as easy as possible (pictures are a bonus). I would greatly appreciate the help. *lets hope Hugh Henderson sees this!*
Below is an example of what I am describing above.

Weld bump map not showing & Visual Styles / graphics issues (2013 IV)
This morning Inventor started acting up. It will not display the bump mapping for welds anymore. I can go to another users machine and the same assembly will display the welds, so this is an isolated issue as far as I can tell. Unfortunately it's with my machine lol.
See below for an example...
I made sure the Bump mapping wasn't disabled for some odd reason. It isn't...
This may also be related as I'm now having issues with the Visual Styles. Realistic no longer works. Yes I have double checked in the Document Settings to make sure the check box is "checked" for the "Use Ray Tracing for Realistic Visual Style"..
Another thing related to the Visual Styles is that the bottom three Styles are throwing a graphics issue prompt asking to run Diagnostics......
If I select any of the Styles highlighted above I will receive this message...
When I click "Yes" to run hardware Diagnostics I am returned this report...
I believe this is some sort of driver issue or possibly one of my GPU's is going out? My rig setup is in my signature. I have already downloaded and installed the graphics driver again (same version I had which is the most current from NVidia 320.00).
Any ideas?
Problems opening an idw from 2013 in 2014
Hi, I am having problems opening an idw created in the 2013 version on my inventor professional 2014.
The idw contains its own template, views, dimensions, details and cuts.
Upon opening in 2014 to release details of the scale is changed randomly and the views are out of the leaf.
Anyone else had this same problem?
Zone Border edits...
Okay, I'm having a problem with a Zone Border.
I'm kind of a new user, but this behavior just doesn't seem right.
I created the Zone Border like normal. I edited the appearance of the 'ABCD1234' text slightly:
- changed to center and middle justification.
- changed width to 120%
- changed color to black
The edits to 'ABCD' took effect and look just right. The edits to '1234' don't stay edited. I save the sketch, it looks okay, then when I add it to Sheet:1, the numbers have gone back to blue and lost the width and justification edits. But the letters are fine. What the heck is going on?

joining a revolved surface
I have 2 sheet metal parts, both have been revolved using an angle of 359.9deg so there is a small gap to weld. in the assembly I copied one as a surface onto the other part and I want to scuplt it at the intersection of the two.
The problem I've come to is that the small gap in the surface is preventing me from deleteing the upper part of the cut, how can I make the surface a whole so there is no gap in the cut?

Version mismatch when exporting from Inventor to CATIA by the API
Hi all,
i'm facing strange behaviour with Inventor 2013 (PDS Ultimate).
I'm working close with some CATIA users and therefore i have to export frequently files to CATIA (parts and assemblies).
If i export files manually by invoking Inventors SAVEAS command rom the pukkdown menu, i can select the proper CATIA target (V5 R19 in my case) and the exported files are pretty good in CATIA.
Attached is a screenshot from the options dialog in Inventor 2013 which proves the default output format is V5 R19,
For a set of company standard parts i use a small program (Inventor addin, written in C++) which generates the desired parts by selected parameters and automatically exports them as CATIA files.
And here things become weird.
All exported CATPart's and CATProduct's are created in format V5 R20 which my users cannot open.
I have tried 2 different approaches:
1, Create CATIA files by the current documents saveas method.
I made sure that the CATIA output format was set to V5 R19 as default.
This is the case when i open the SAVEAS command from Inventors pulldown menu,
switch to CATIA export and check the options: default value is V5 R19.
Then, in my appplication i make a call a like this:
HRESULT hr = pDoc->SaveAs(CComBSTR("Test.CATPart") , VARIANT_TRUE);
A file is created but it cannot be imported into CATIA V5R19 because it is in release R20.
When i look into the file with a texteditor i can find the version ID tags as "V5R20SP0HF0".
2, Create CATIA files by the Translator addin.
This doesn't work either.
Here's my simplified code (based ona sample from the http://adndevblog.typepad.com/manufacturing blog:
HRESULT createfile_CATIA_V5R19_Part(CComPtr<Application> m_pApplication ,
CComPtr<Document> pDoc ,
const CString sInventorFileToSave)
{
HRESULT hretv = S_OK;
//
// Find the translator addin
CComPtr<ApplicationAddIns> pAddIns;
m_pApplication->get_ApplicationAddIns(&pAddIns);
//
CComPtr<TranslatorAddIn> pAddIn;
// Translator: CATIA V5 Part Export {2FEE4AE5-36D3-4392-89C7-58A9CD14D305}
pAddIns->get_ItemById(_bstr_t("{2FEE4AE5-36D3-4392-89C7-58A9CD14D305}") , (ApplicationAddIn**)&pAddIn);
//
if (pAddIn == NULL){
AfxMessageBox(_T("setCATIA_Out_Opts_V5R19(); No Addin object created!") , MB_OK);
_tprintf_s(_T("*** Could not find the translator addin ***\n"));
return E_FAIL;
}
//
pAddIn->Activate();
//
// Set it up
CComPtr<TransientObjects> pTr;
m_pApplication->get_TransientObjects(&pTr);
//
CComPtr<TranslationContext> pContext;
pTr->CreateTranslationContext(&pContext);
pContext->put_Type(IOMechanismEnum::kFileBrowseIOMechanism);
//
CComPtr<DataMedium> pMedium;
pTr->CreateDataMedium(&pMedium);
//
CComBSTR bstrOutputFile(sInventorFileToSave);
pMedium->put_FileName(bstrOutputFile);
//
CComPtr<NameValueMap> pOptions;
pTr->CreateNameValueMap(&pOptions);
//
VARIANT_BOOL hasOptions;
pAddIn->get_HasSaveCopyAsOptions(pDoc, pContext, pOptions, &hasOptions);
if (hasOptions == VARIANT_TRUE){
hretv = pOptions->put_Value(_bstr_t("Version") , CComVariant(_T("CATIA V5(19)")));
if(FAILED(hretv)) AfxMessageBox(_T("Failed to set CATIA output options!") , MB_OK);
}
//
pAddIn->SaveCopyAs(pDoc, pContext, pOptions, pMedium);
//
return hretv;
}
I have verified that the call to SaveCopyAs has succeeded,
but regardless of the CATIA version set in pOptions it always creates a V5R20 output file.
The problem must be specific to Inventor 2013.
Running the Addin in Inventor 2012 works as expected and creates V5R19 files.
Can anyone please verify this issue?
It would be great to get some information on this -
otherwise i cannot use Inventor 2013 and have to stay with 2012 - which is not my favourite.
Kind regards,
Richard
LoadOnStartup ignored from Inventor 2013 onwards?
I've read that in the .AddIn file LoadOnStartUp item is obsolete.
Does that mean that AddIns are always loaded on startup of Inventor?
Component Paterns & Folders
I can easily move component patterns into a folder as long as all patterns are sequential in the browser. However if I create another pattern that belongs to the folder but is created after the original patterns I cannot add it to the folder. If I delete the folder and select the patterns I get an error message if I try to add them to a new folder (remember the patterns are not sequential). I cannot move a pattern in the browser once created and if I move the part into the folder and then create the pattern it moves it back to the bottom of browser. THe net result is I end up with a lot of 'orphaned' patterns.
Is there anyway anyway around this problem?
